Information for Rescheduling a Road Test

We understand that not passing your first road test can be disappointing, and we’re here to help you get ready for your retest. There are two testing options moving forward, and both have state mandated requirements before you can test again.

Important State Mandated Information!

There is a 24 hour period from the date of your test before the DMV will allow you (or us) to schedule a retest.

You cannot retest until 2 weeks after your test

The DMV requires a $40 retest fee, even if you test with The Next Street again.

Retesting Options

Option 1: Retest at the DMV

You can retest on your own at your local DMV.  You can schedule this online at www.dmvroadtest.ct.gov/dmv/do-it-online under “Reschedule Road Test Appointment”

Option 2: Retest at TNS

You can retest with us at The Next Street. We will get you the soonest available retest date and help schedule it for you. The cost of $190 includes the retest fee of $150 and the DMV fee of $40 in one easy transaction in your student portal.

You can enroll in and schedule your retest directly through your Student Portal.

Make Sure To Know the Vehicle You're Testing In

An overlooked but very important component on test day is being familiar with the car you’re testing in! Whether it’s your mom’s station wagon or one of our vehicles, the DMV agent will be checking to make sure you know your way around the cabin. Is it push to start or turn key? Floor parking brake or hand pulled? Can you properly adjust your mirrors? Make sure you know all the key features of the car before test day.

If you’re testing with us, you can get familiar with the inside of our vehicles here.

Need more practice? Book a Mock Test Lesson.

In this 2-hour add on, you will perform a mock version of the test with one of our licensed driving instructors playing the role of a DMV testing agent. They will provide expert commentary and feedback, and the remaining lesson time will be spent working on those maneuvers in order to prepare you for your test day. You can bring your evaluation sheet from your test and work specifically on the areas that were the most challenging for you. This lesson can be booked in your [tns_portal_link].
