What to know before you go

With your driving lesson right around the corner, make sure you don’t lose your way by ignoring our need-to-know lesson requirements. If you do not have everything you need, your lesson will not be able to run and you will be subject to our No Show Fees. No one wants fees; please read this thoroughly.

Must Haves

Your Physical Permit

No photocopies, no digital pictures of it. You must have your actual permit on your person any time you are driving.

Appropriate Footwear

Fully enclosed, sneaker-like shoes are required for all lessons. No crocs, no slides,
no sandals, no high heels, no bare feet.

Glasses/Contacts

(if you wear them)

Check your permit. If you have a B restriction, you must have your corrective lenses on while you drive.

You Must Have Your Physical Permit

To drive, you must always have your physical learner’s permit on your person. We cannot accept a photocopy or a digital picture of your permit. Your permit must be active. No student will be allowed to drive with a permit after the expiration date on the permit. Please make sure that you have your active physical permit with you before you leave for your lesson.

Footwear Do's and Don'ts

Wear the Right Shoes

Safety is our top priority for both our students and other drivers. To ensure the safe and effective operation of a vehicle, novice drivers are required to wear appropriate footwear during driving lessons. Improper footwear can hinder a driver’s ability to operate pedals safely, increasing the risk of accidents. Fully enclosed, sneaker-like shoes are mandatory for all lessons. By adhering to these guidelines, students will be better equipped to focus on mastering driving techniques safely and confidently.

  • Fully closed, covering your entire foot (including both the toe and heel) and providing proper stability and support. That means no sandals—they’re prohibited and can mess with safe pedal operation.
  • Well-fitting, and snug without being too tight (or too loose), ensuring complete control over pedal movements.
  • Flat-soled, for consistent contact with the pedals. They also have to be non-slip, and high heels or shoes with excessively thick soles are not permitted.

If you’re not sure, check out the list of shoes you can—and can’t—show up with on test day.

Corrective Lenses and B Restriction

Check out your permit. You require corrective lenses to drive if you have a letter B in the Restrictions section. Please make sure you bring your glasses/contacts on your lesson. If you have a B Restriction and do not bring corrective lenses, you will not be permitted to drive and will be subject to no-show fees. This is important once you have your license, too: If you’re caught driving without the necessary eyewear and your license has a “B” restriction, you could face penalties up to and including having your license suspended.
